London Venues With a View of the Thames
To quote the 19th century politico John Burns, “The Thames is liquid history”. Few people can walk across Westminster Bridge and not feel a sense of awe and wonderment at the views, the landmarks, and of course, the Thames itself. There are some magnificent venues lining the riverbank, here below is a selection of these that we heartily recommend for anyone wanting somewhere with river views for their event.
HMS President - 1
Unique venue: check. Outside space: check. River Views: Check. So close to the river it’s in it, HMS President 1918 has long since retired from life as an anti-submarine Q-Ship and now runs as a full time conference and events venue. Moored on Embankment the ship boasts large spaces, small spaces and outside decks for drinks and summers BBQs. You can also enjoy tours of the Thames on fast RIBs direct from the boat.
OXO2 - 2
Occupying an entire floor in this iconic London landmark on the South Bank (opposite HMS President) OXO2 caters for everything from fashion shows and weddings through to conferences and Xmas parties. Full height windows and numerous doors allow for superb views of St Paul’s and the City.
The Mermaid - 3
One venue for which the saying ‘never judge a book by it’s cover’ couldn’t ring truer. Inside this relatively bland looking building are the two River Rooms, which both offer great views over the river.
Altitude - 4
Based inside the Millbank Tower Altitude boasts numerous venues from those on the lower floors looking onto the river to Altitude 360 and Skyloft, which both offer incredible panoramas of the London skyline.
Tate Modern - 5
It could be argued that London’s skyline is an artwork in it’s own right and this venue showcases it perfectly with numerous internal venues offering Thames views.
The Deck - 6
Operating as part of the National Theatre The Deck isn’t a large venue but it’s sure as hell an interesting one! A marquee-come-conservatory with wrap around deck offering views across London, the venue is ideal for summer parties, marketing events and dinners.
London’s Living Room - 7
Situated on the 9th floor of London’s City Hall, home to Boris Johnson when he’s not dangling from zip-wires. The Living Room has a wrap around balcony and floor to ceiling windows.
Old Billingsgate - 8
Once home to the Billingsgate Fish Market, which at the time was the world’s largest, now it’s offers flexible event spaces for conferences, exhibitions and parties. The 400sqm terrace is perfect for drinks receptions or event arrival by boat!
Royal Horseguards - 9
One of our favourite London hotels, One Whitehall Place has numerous event spaces in part of the building which used to belong to the National Liberal Club. These include the grand Reading and Writing Room and the River Room, which as the name suggests offers views of the Thames as well as the London eye and County Hall.
Park Plaza Riverbank - 10
Over in South West London the dramatic Thames Suite at the Park Plaza Riverbank offers spectacular views of the river and the Houses of Parliament. It can host theatre-style events of up to 310 delegates or 160 in a cabaret-style
Wyndham Grand - 11
Not quiet on the river but cocooned within the delightful Chelsea Harbour development, this 5* all-suite hotel offers a event spaces with natural day light and a great terrace for those post-conference cocktails overlooking the super yachts.
Tower Bridge - 12
A venue which is, quite literally, overlooking the river. Available in the evenings only, the two walkways offer incredible views over the capital. Perfect for those high-profile dinners and receptions.
