Q&A with Georgia Graham, the meetings and events sales manager at The Strand Palace Hotel, London

In our latest Q&A feature we talk to Georgia Graham, the meetings and events sales manager at The Strand Palace Hotel, one of the West Ends largest hotels, which is 109 years old and has a whopping 785 bedrooms

Tell us about your role at the venue and how long you’ve been there?  

I'm Georgia Graham, the newly appointed Meetings and Events Sales Manager and I look after a team of 2 coordinators.

What’s the best thing about working at your venue? 

The best thing about working here is that as it is an independent hotel the decision making process is faster than in other hotels. This allows us to have a good response time in regards to answering to our clients.

How did you get into the industry?  

I was a receptionist in a hotel spa and the director of events asked me to join his team to look after the weddings and social events. I loved it immediately as it combined the customer service with organisation, and I also love the fact that each event is unique therefore my job is never boring.

What’s the history of the venue?  

The Strand Palace Hotel has been welcoming guests since 1909. Our part in The Strand’s history story begins in 1907, when permission was granted for a ‘grand’ new hotel. Two years later the Strand Palace Hotel opened its doors. At that time a single room with breakfast would have set you back five shillings and six pence.

Give us an interesting fact about your venue/tell us something we wouldn’t know  

We are updating our guest rooms to ensure that guests have a memorable stay in the heart of London, where the City meets the West End. Our new rooms are kitted out with air conditioning, complimentary Wi-Fi, White Company toiletries and a laptop safe as standard.

What’s the most interesting event you’ve worked on, and how did the venue cope with it?  

The best and biggest event I worked on here is for Parkinson’s UK that we host each year during London marathon. They use all our meeting spaces and we host approximately 300 people. The preparation for this event takes time but the result is always great!

Conferences and meetings

Because of the location and the competitive prices we offer!

What are your venues top 3 USPs that separate you from other venues?  

Location, meetings spaces are all located on one floor, railway stations and underground stations close by.

What changes or exciting plans are coming up in 2018 for the venue?  

We're currently going through a big refurbishment of the hotel, with work aiming to be completed by summer 2019.
