Hilton Paddington - W2 1EE
To many railway hotels evoke images of steam trains, old films and unsavoury rooms. Once upon a time every major station would have had a large hotel but thanks to privatisation many are now defunct. These days though those that remain are thriving, especially thanks to the up turn in conferences and events.
The Hilton Paddington (formerly the Great Western Royal Hotel) is a majestic building both outside and in. Opened in 1854 the public areas are as grand as one would expect with high ceilings and ornate staircases. There are 364 bedrooms of various standards including a number of well appointed suites. Downstairs there are 28 meeting rooms, of which the pinnacle is the Great Western suite that can seat banquets of 400 and even has natural daylight. There are plenty of smaller rooms and a well equipped business centre offering all the usual services. A wonderful Victorian hotel for the 21st century business traveller.
