Environmentally Friendly Venues London

CSR and sustainability are now integral components of most large companies policies and have made their way into many meetings and events programs. We’re often asked if we have any green venues on our site, well of course we do!

Now as far for environmentally friendly venues go things can get a bit complex. There is no official measure, as such, of proving eco credentials, any venue can claim to be a friend of the environment, they could recycle plastic bottles while simultaneously burning tyres for warmth out back and nothing could be done. There are a few organisations who will certify venues as eco-friendly, they are;

British Standards Institute - They have ISO20121, which is a standard for organising events. It’s profile was raised when the London 2012 committee implemented it to ensure the games were environmentally sound. To be honest it’s quite a complex framework, which is based more around planning of events than running of venues. ISO 14000 is a more appropriate standard for venues to achieve in becoming more eco-conscious during their day-to-day activities.

BREEAM - The award is more to do with how sustainable the building itself is, rather than how the venue runs events. It can be given to new building, for which it considers the sustainability of materials used in construction and the efficiency of the building, and buildings already in use whereby they consider the efficiency of the building and how it can be/has been improved.

Green Tourism Awards - Is a not for profit scheme backed by VisitEngland to accredit and monitor environmentally friendly businesses in the tourism and leisure sector, including many conference and meeting venues. Members are audited on application and every 2 years there after by inspectors who work with them to make improvements throughout the buildings and business. Three awards are available, gold, silver & bronze.
